Brightspace (Learning Management System)

Northampton Community College has transitioned to Brightspace, our new learning management system, starting with the Summer 2025 sessions.

Brightspace replaces Blackboard and will be the new platform where you’ll access your courses, assignments, grades, and learning materials.

If you’re registered for a summer course, you’ll automatically be enrolled in Brightspace—just like you were in Blackboard. Brightspace is only used for current courses. You won't have access until closer to your first course's start date (typically a few days before classes start).

To get started, visit https://brightspace.northampton.edu/d2l/home. You’ll complete a short tutorial within your summer course to learn how to navigate Brightspace and make the most of its features.

If you have any questions or need help, contact the NCC Help Desk at Helpdesk@northampton.edu.

The primary way that students should access Brightspace is through a standard computer, laptop, or Chromebook using the Google Chrome browser. Accessing Brightspace from tablets, smartphones, and the Pulse mobile app. Other standard browsers (current version) are compatible with Brightspace.

Assignment FAQ

Access a Brightspace Assignment Tutorial here.

When you submit an assignment successfully, the View History tool appears to review the assignment if needed and a Completion Status tool provides messaging for confirmation of submission. This data will always be available for viewing.

You can access your assignment submission from the Grades tool along with any comments/feedback that might be provided.

Frequently asked questions:

  • My instructor didn't receive my assignment. What do I do? You must discuss this issue with your instructor.

  • How do I edit or resubmit an assignment? You can't edit a submitted assignment, but you may be allowed to resubmit it. However, you can't resubmit all assignments. Check if you can submit an assignment more than once. If you can't and made a mistake, you must contact your instructor to ask for the opportunity to resubmit the assignment.

  • How do I know if my assignment has been graded? Assignments aren't graded automatically. Your instructor must grade each assignment and post the grade and feedback. The Grades page displays all your grades. The Grades area is located on the blue navigation bar on any Brightspace page. If you submitted your assignment, but it's not graded, you'll see an indication of this. In some cases, it may show as a zero grade until grading has been completed. If your assignment has been submitted and graded, the grade appears in the assignment's row.

Delete Assignment Submission

Typically, students cannot delete or un-submit an assignment in Brightspace. However, students may be able to resubmit an assignment if their instructor has set up the assignment to allow multiple submissions. If a student can't resubmit an assignment, they will need to contact their instructor to resolve.
