Before Registering

Students are strongly encouraged to meet with their Academic Advisor before registering for classes to make sure they are on track to meet their goals. To locate your Academic Advisor, log into your Workday Student Portal and click on the "Academics" icon. From there click on “View My Support Network”. You can also take advantage of in-person or virtual walk-in advising hours.

If you have not registered for a course with NCC within the last two major semesters (Spring or Fall), you will need to apply or re-apply. Create an account in our Admissions & Financial Aid Portal if you have yet to, or log in if you do have one, and complete an application. If you previously attended NCC and then stopped out for a period of time, you would select "Re-Admit Student" as your Applicant Type. If you are a guest/visiting student from another college, you will select "Non-Degree" for your Applicant Type and "Guest/Visiting Student" for your Program of Study.

After you've completed your application, check your personal email account you entered in your application. Within 24 hours, you’ll receive an email with your username and temporary password for your Workday Student Portal along with next steps for our admitted students.

The Academic Calendar is where you can find important registration, drop, and withdrawal dates for the current and upcoming semesters. For important dates regarding classes that run on a non-standard schedule, contact the Records Office – Bethlehem Campus or Enrollment Office – Pocono Campus.

Holds Preventing Registration

There are several types of HOLDS that may prevent you from registering. Make sure to complete all the onboarding items in your Workday inbox or contact the appropriate office about steps to remove the hold.

If you have an overdue balance, you should contact the Bursar's Office. If you still have "onboarding items" in your Workday inbox, you need to complete them to remove the Registration Onboarding HOLD. If you have an Advising HOLD, you should contact the Advising Office. You can see HOLDS by logging into your Workday account, going to the “Academics” application, and select “View My Holds” under the “Academic Records” section.

Registering for Courses

  • To register for courses, start by logging into our Workday Student Portal on the NCC Student Logins page.

  • Under Academics, you can also see any "Holds" or "Actions to Do" that might prevent you from registering. See next section for more information.

  • Click the "Academics" icon, then click "Find Course Sections & Register" for the appropriate period, and search for a course you want using the advanced search criteria on the left-hand side. To filter for electives, use the "Course Tag" filter and select the desired elective category such as Arts and Humanities (AH), Social Sciences: Societies and Institutions Over Time (SIT), and so forth.

  • Choose the class you want and follow the prompts to add the course section you want to your schedule.

  • Remember that building a schedule does not mean you are registered for your courses. Make sure to click the REGISTER button to enroll in the desired course section.

  • Don’t forget to "View My Courses" under "Academics" to confirm that you have successfully registered for your courses!

For more detailed instructions, review our Workday Quick Reference Guide (QRG). Note, you will need your student login credentials to access the QRG.

Requesting a Course Override or Exemption

Sometimes an override or exemption is required for consideration to be registered for a course in instances such as:

To request an override or exemption, log into your Workday Student Portal, then click on the academics tab. From there, click Planning & Registration, and then choose Request an Override or Exemption into a course. More detailed instructions on requesting an override or exemption can be found in the hyperlinked Workday Quick Reference Guides (QRG) for each type. If you need a different one, preview all QRGs here. Note, you will need your student login credentials to access the QRG.

Dropping or Changing a Course

From the Workday Student Portal homepage, click the "Academics" application. On your Academics dashboard under "Planning & Registration", click "View My Courses".

The next screen will show your schedule and the courses you are registered for. If you need to change your schedule, you can use the swap or drop buttons next to each course.

  • The “Swap” button allows you to drop a course and select a new course in its place in a single step. This button will take you to the “Find Course Sections” page to locate your new class section.

  • The “Drop” button allows you to drop the course section. Note that if dropping the class would bring you below the required units, you may be asked to swap for another class instead.

If you would like to add a class, you would follow the same steps as registering for a course.

Please reference the Academic Calendar for relative important dates and deadlines for adding, dropping and withdrawing from a course. You can reference this Workday Quick Reference Guide (QRG) to drop a course from your current schedule if within the appropriate timeframe. If the deadline for dropping a course has passed, you can still withdraw from the course and can reference this Workday Quick Reference Guide (QRG). Note, you will need your student login credentials to access these QRG's.
